Austin Fire responding to gas line hit in north Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department is sending a hazmat task force to north Austin after reports of a gas line hit by an excavator.Crews are responding to the 1400 block of Meadowmear Drive. That's located near Dessau Road in north Austin.According to initial reports from AFD, an excavator hit a six-inch line within the block. AFD is asking people to avoid the area.In an update, AFD told KXAN three families in neighboring homes were evacuated. Dessau Road has been shut down in both directions as a result. AFD confirmed construction work was being done in the area when the line was hit.This is a developing story. CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department and the Cedar Park Fire Department are responding to reports of a structure fire in the 10200 block of Fossmoor Street, AFD said in a social media post Monday.Per AFD, initial reports said there were flames visible under solar panels on the roof. EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- A pursuit involving the Texas Department of Public Safety ended up with the vehicle that was being pursued landing in a pond at the El Paso Country Club on Sunday morning, Oct. 8, a DPS spokesman confirmed to KTSM.The pursuit began at Mesa and Doniphan and ended with the pursued vehicle going into a pond at the golf course off Country Club Drive, said DPS Sgt. Eliot Torres.The driver of the pursued vehicle and five migrants inside bailed out of the vehicle before it went into the pond, Torres said. There were no injuries, he said.The migrants will be turned over to Border Patrol for processing. A swimmer from Lake Elmo was among those hospitalized last week after exposure to a chemical that spilled last month when a tanker truck overturned in central Illinois.Five people died as a result of the Sept. 29 exposure to the anhydrous ammonia — a chemical that can burn or corrode organic tissue.Sarah Tague, 18, of Lake Elmo, was injured in an anhydrous ammonia leak from a tanker truck that crashed on Sept. 29, 2023, near Teutopolis, Ill. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Two people were arrested in Colonie after being found in possession of stolen firearms, according to New York State Police. Kareem Whitted (45, Poughkeepsie) and Jeffrey Thomas (51, Durham) each face multiple charges. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! On Saturday, around 4:30 p.m., multiple agencies tried to locate Thomas due to an active warrant. Police say the two were found together at a Colonie motel and, after further investigation, were found to have multiple stolen firearms, which were seized. Police say while being taken into custody, Whitted gave false identifying information. Police say Whitted also had a warrant for his arrest issued to by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision on an unrelated matter. ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Rotterdam man has been arrested following a menacing incident, according to police. Travis Forbes, 47, is facing multiple charges. On October 8 at 6:50 p.m., the Rotterdam Police Department responded to a home on Poutre Avenue for reports of a man threatening people with a gun. Upon arrival, officers were able to confirm that multiple people were inside the house. All occupants in the residence other than the suspect were able to vacate the house and confirm to police that the man was still inside, and that he had threatened them with a handgun. Officers then made contact with the man, identified as Forbes, who eventually surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
