Game predictionsMatt Schubert, sports editor: This place is ready to explode. Will the Buffs deliver in Coach Prime’s debut? That probably boils down to this: stopping Nebraska’s run game. Given what happened last week against TCU, that’s not a given. But … Colorado 27, Nebraska 21.Kyle Newman, sports reporter: It comes down to the wire and the Huskers physicality is all the Buffs can handle. But ultimately, the Colorado defense shows some backbone in the second half and Shedeur Sanders’ late TD pass to Xavier Weaver is the difference. Earlier this week, a photographer and videographer captured boogie boarders surfing some bioluminescent waves in Huntington Beach. The glow from the waves is a result of algae that is disturbed at night and causes bioluminescence. Nate Jaros, senior director of fish and invertebrates at the Aquarium of the Pacific told KTLA that the microalgae, called a dinoflagellate, is associated with a red tide and gives the water a red-colored tint during the day while creating a bioluminescent glow when disturbed at night. “It's the same type of organism when you have a red tide, which gives the water kind of an orangish brown, red kind of tint when they are in high density during the day,” he said. “But at night when disturbed, they produce bioluminescence. So when there's a lot of agitation in the surf, it can activate that bioluminescence which makes the waves appear to be glowing.”The microalgae always exists in the water, but during the summer when the water is warmer and contains mo...Kurtenbach: The 49ers are held to higher standards than other NFL teams. There is only one acceptable outcome for the San Francisco 49ers this season: a championship. No more long-term plans. No more “wait until next year.” No more considering coming close a success. No more blaming injuries or bad luck for coming up short. It’s been 29 years since the 49ers last won the Super Bowl. That streak cannot reach 30.And while the Super Bowl LVIII is five months away, Sunday’s 2023 season opener in Pittsburgh against the Steelers (10 a.m., KTVU-TV) will let everyone know if these 49ers understand the assignment.Strangely, this all-or-nothing pressure — a force that could fortify or break this squad throughout the season — is refreshing. An uncompromising standard was once implicit for this organization, a bedrock of American professional sports.I’m glad it’s back.Related ArticlesSan Francisco 49ers | Kurtenbach: The 49ers finally paid Nick Bosa because you can’t put a price on a Super Bowl San Francisco 49e...Photos: Bay Area high school football Week 3, 2023
